A clean seal of approval

Appliances have a lifespan of 10 – 12 years on average. To ensure proper operation it would be good to regularly check your refrigerator and freezer door gaskets. Not only do they need to seal properly against the unit for efficiency but they also need to remain clean to prevent damage. Sticky substances can cause the gasket to rip.

Also, as a safeguard a thin layer of vaseline or petroleum jelly can be applied to help softern a dried gasket so that it will form a good seal around the door.

Clean coils in your refrigerator

Dirt, dust, and pet hair can clog up refrigerator coils, restricting air flow and causing the refrigerator to work harder to keep cool. Once or twice a year, use a handheld vacuum to clean the coils and suck up any loose particles. The location of refrigerator coils varies by model, but most can be found either behind the kick plate (the front panel near the floor) or at the rear of the fridge.

Longer than normal dry times…..

Do you suffer from longer than normal dry times? Theres a good chance your dryer vent could be restricted. You may benefit from pulling your dryer out and disconnecting the vent between the wall and dryer and cleaning any buildup you may find. Today I, Ryan, ran into a restricted vent between the dryer and the wall. Once cleaned the dryer was back to operating normally.

In some cases, you may need to have a professional clean the vent in the wall to remove a restriction to restore proper dryer venting. Keeping our dryer vent clean not only helps with run times but saves the dryer from excess wear and tear, premature part failure.

Refrigerator coils are happiest when clean

Most of us have heard the term “out of sight, out of mind.” Well, typically most refrigerators, ice machines, and beverage coolers have condenser coils that are out of sight, there for are usually out of mind. Even though they are physically out of sight the extra energy consumption on your electric bill is not!

Condenser coils must remain clean to efficiently dissipate heat. Therefore the refrigeration system has to work harder (longer) to keep things cool, which adds to energy consumption. Not only does it cost more to run an appliance with a dirty condenser but it adds more wear and tear due to longer run times which shortens the life of the product.

In some severe cases the appliance may stop cooling properly resulting in higher than normal temperatures which if left unnoticed could result in food loss. Routine cleaning of the condenser coils help your refrigeration appliance cost less to run and lessens premature failure of components, plus no loss of food! Most user manuals will explain how to clean your coils or a quick search online will show you how to as well.

In the event you do not want to tackle this task yourself we at Appliance Pro Service can perform the required cleaning. We are just one phone call away. Our technicians are factory trained and experienced. Along with performing the routine coil cleaning we can verify everything is working properly and check your settings.

The picture attached to this post was taken on 1-25-2017. A repeat customer of ours contacted us about their refrigerator not cooling properly. The picture shows you what we found.  This finding prompted us to post to our appliance repair service blog to bring awareness to a scenario that can be prevented.
